Legacy 613 Aims to Add Meaning to Prayer – Jewish Exponent
By Andy Gotlieb -- Prayer is apparently becoming less meaningful to many Orthodox Jews, as well as to Jews in general, but a pioneer program being tested in a handful of yeshiva high schools — including Kohelet Yeshiva High School in Merion Station — is hoping to reverse that. An organization called Legacy 613 (the 613 references the number of mitzvot in the Torah) is behind the program, which was launched in the 2016-17 school year after a web-based survey of almost 4,000 modern Orthodox Jews 18 and older showed that:

Legacy 613, Putting Prayer at the Forefront of Jewish Education - Jewish Life
By Ilan Preskovsky -- Within the world of religious observance, prayer holds a particularly special place. While Torah learning gives us greater understanding of what we’re doing here and observance of the mitzvot elevates and challenges our everyday existence, it is primarily through prayer – through what we call davening or tefillah – that we draw ourselves close to our

The Prayer Crisis: Legacy 613 Responds - Jewish Link
By Tammy Mark -- From the moment young children excitedly receive their very first siddur, as parents look on with pride and joy, prayer is a permanent part of their life. Opening Teens’ Minds to Prayer - Jewish Philanthropy
By Tova Ross -- Before teens can effectively talk to God, tefilla needs to talk to them. Tefilla is not only one of the core parts of Judaism, but of any solid yeshiva education, sometimes performed up to three times per day at school. Yet few schools devote any real time to educating students about its essential elements: the meaning behind the words, the awesomely transformative power prayer holds to connect with Hashem, and the ability to plead for our basic needs and desires and be thankful for all that we have.

The Gift of Tefillah at SKA - 5TJT
By Yafa Storch -- For the past two years, the Stella K. Abraham High School for Girls has partnered with the Legacy 613 Foundation to create innovative educational opportunities for our students. This summer, SKA received grant money from the foundation to purchase Koren NCSY Siddurim, developed by Debbie Stone, for all of our students. The siddurim have highlighted words, thought-provoking questions, suggestions for reflection and pictures that enhance the tefillah experience and allow teachers to create educational moments during daily tefillah.
